Let's end October with a Halloween treat. Another bag full of cover tunes. This time we have 80's/90's hardcore bands taking on 70's punk classics. I like to call it 'Punk Love'. Iggy, The Ramones, Sex Pistols and even The Stranglers are represented by such hardcore luminaries as Poison Idea, Bad Religion and GangGreen. At these prices you'd be a fool not to open your hearts and give love a shot.

Pork Dukes - All The Filth!
To be honest I was completely unaware of the existence of the Pork Dukes until I found them on another blog several months ago. Crude, rude and socially unacceptable punk rock from the 70's. The way nature intended.

The Stranglers - IV: Rattus Norvegicus
The Stranglers formed in the mid 70's and have released music throughout the last 4 decades. But to be honest I stopped listening after their first few releases. I do love this album, tho.

The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
The Damned released this classic debut in 1977. Hell yeah, great stuff! Thomas over at the suddenly defunct Punx4Life helped me out with this one. Apparently he's gone underground again. Anyway, thanks wherever you are. Drop me a line if you start another blog!

MC5 - Back In The U.S.A.
Technically the Motor City 5 might not be classified as a 'punk' band. However, in the late 60's/early 70's they were about as punk as you could get. Loud, fast, angry and far left.In 1969 they released the ultimate rock 'n' roll anthem 'Kick Out The Jams', but I've chosen to include their second release, from 1970.

The Avengers - Died For Your Sins
San Francisco also brought us the Avengers. A great early punk band. They had the distinction for being the opening act at the Sex Pistols Winterland show. Much like so many other bands, the Avengers didn't release too much. This is a compilation released in 1999 containing lots of early recordings plus live stuff.

Crime - Hot Wire My Heart 7"
Up the coast we go to San Francisco. The often overlooked band Crime only released a couple singles in their original short span. A great compilation was released in 1991 with most, if not all of their recorded material. That CD, entitled San Francisco's Doomed will make its way onto the blog at some point. But for now here's their 1976 debut single.

Runaways - Self-Titled
Let's take a trip out west on this beautiful Sunday morning. Los Angeles, to be exact. The Runaways, in my opinion, helped pave the way for women in punk. Agree? Anyway, they only released a couple albums before most of them went on to super stardom with other bands or solo.

New York Dolls - Self-Titled
We can't discuss 70's punk without mentioning the New York Dolls. The influential Glam Punks released only two albums in their initial run, but they were monsters. Of course during the following 3 decades re-releases, live releases and reunions followed. For my money though, here's their best. How can the song 'Pills' not be an all time classic like 'Personality Crisis'? One of my favorite songs ever.

Dead Boys - We've Come For Your Children
Stiv, Cheetah and the rest of the Dead Boys got together originally in Cleveland, Ohio. They quickly moved to NYC and were able to make some great noise between 1976 & 1979. Here's their second full length release.

The Stooges - Fun House
Before The Clash, before the Pistols and even before the Ramones there was IGGY! The Grandfather Of Punk was rockin' out with his cock out way back in the 60's. Now he's in his 60's. Here's the Stooges second full length, released way back in 1970.

Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks... + Live At Winterland
Here's a two-fer... Friday. Hmm, maybe I shoulda waited for Teusday, huh? Anyway, today we have the filth and the fury of the Sex Pistols. First we have to include their classic (and only) LP. Next we have their last (and almost only) American show, at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom. Good quality recording. Sid never sounded better. No seriously, he never was able to play the bass any better.
