V/A - 'War Between The States' Compilations

This massive comp was originally released in 1985 along with a second 'South' tape. Unfortunately I don't have that one. Can anyone out there help me with that please? Thanks to both Zach in KC and the mighty François (shit dude, what do you NOT have?!) for quickly fixing this problem! Tons of bands, tons of songs, tons of reasons to download.

V/A - Cleanse The Bacteria + Mini E.P.

Legendary punk Pushead put this incredible compilation together in 1985. Lots of big dogs from around the world, including Poison Idea, Crude S.S., C.O.C. and of course Septic Death. I've also included the mini album that was included, I believe, if purchased through mail order. This includes 7 of the bands doing additional tunes.

V/A - Exclusion

This is a good worldwide comp from 1989 that I found on the great Crucified For Your Sins blog. 14 bands of varying degrees of hardcore.

Between 1984 & 1987 German label Weird System released these 3 worldwide hardcore compilations featuring tons of great bands doing tons of great songs. I had Volume 1. We have the great Brootlyn Zu to thank for #2 & 3. Now... stop reading, start downloading.

V/A - Punk's Not Dread

Here's a really good hardcore comp from 1991. 6 bands doing 12 songs. All U.K., with the exception of the mighty Poison Idea.

Milepost 666 v.5 - He Is Risen!

Easter Sunday is a day to celebrate. And what better way than to post another collection of blasphemy. We start with a heavy dose of tunes about America's favorite zombie, and round it out taking particular aim at T.V. 'saviors'. Consider it my own personal faith based initiative.
A note, I found the blasphemous cover pic while searching for such things. It apparently stirred up quite a controversy in a college newspaper. Enjoy!

V/A - 'Empty Skulls' Compilations

Today we have two great compilations. Volume 1 was released in 1984 on cassette 42 songs from 16 bands including heavyweights C.O.C., Out Of Order and Septic Death. Pushead also supplied the cover art. Volume 2 was released on vinyl in 1987. It's a little slower, a little heavier, with bands like Pillsbury Hardcore, Crude SS, and Colera. It's also interesting to hear the progression of C.O.C. between the two comps.

V/A - 'Sound Of Hollywood' Compilations

Ah Mystic. I think hardcore has had a love/hate relationship with Mystic Records since they started pumping out (and I mean PUMPING OUT) records in the early 80's. But there's not doubt some damn good music has worn the Mystic label. Here's a portion of the 'Sound Of Hollywood' series of releases. #1 - Girls has some great bands but far too many Runaways wanna-be's. #2 - Destroy L.A. has lots of good bands doing mostly not great stuff. Not entirely a waste of time, but not the greatest. And #3 - Copulation is, in my opinion, a classic police themed compilation.

V/A - Welcome To Albany 7"

Here's a quick 6 song sampler from New York's capital city. Good late 80's hardcore. And for those of you that like to follow links, here's one to a wealth of Albany Hardcore info. Downloads too.

V/A - Bands That Could Be God

OK, here's a weird one for ya. I remember buying this back in the day. i gave it a listen, taped 'You're False' by Deep Wound and sold it. Well, my tastes have matured a little in the past 30 years, so it's not the horror show I once thought it was. There's some great stuff, some good stuff, some weird stuff, and yes some bad stuff as well. But it certainly deserves at least a couple listens before deleting.

This Canadian comp is a solid collection of 16 songs from 14 bands. Well worth the download if you haven't heard of it yet.

V/A - 'The Big Apple Rotten To The Core' Compilations

I never saw these comps back in the day. Just as well, since I probably wouldn't have picked them up due to the fact that I hadn't heard of most of the bands. But, since blogs are a no risk way to try stuff out, I downloaded both and turns out, I'm glad I did. Both volumes are chock full of sleazy punk rock from the gutters of NYC. Go for it, dude!

V/A - Message From America: Hardcore Has Come Of Age

Another regional compilation today. This one from the northeastern U.S. 6 bands, 13 songs. Unfortunately it comes off as mostly mediocre. But a decent comp on the whole.

V/A - Burning Ambitions - A History Of Punk

Those that pay attention are going to realize the posts are going to be a bit sparse this month. Reality is once again getting in the way. So, as a feeble attempt to make up for this I'm going to post tons and tons of BANDS, via compilations. And we begin near the beginning. I remember when I first got this 1984 compilation. I just loved it. A perfect collection of bands and songs. Hell, a great cover too. I also think it has held up quite well against the test of time. Do yourself a favor.
