ANTiSEEN - Raw Shit

Well, if it's the last day of the month it must be time for ANTiSEEN. Holy shit, I've managed to pull off a theme within a theme. I think I might need therapy. Anyhoo, here's their Raw Shit L.P., originally released in 1989. The first side is their debut 7" 'Drastic' and side 2 has outtakes and live tracks.

Poison Idea - War All The Time

Here is Poison Idea's 1987 offering. Apart from being another PI rager, it's the first release to feature Thee Slayer Hippy on drums.

Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper - Frenzy

O.K., time to take a bit of a left turn today. Mojo Nixon certainly did not play hardcore music, but you could argue he shared the punk rock ethos. Tackling such "punk" topics as MTV (Stuffin' Martha's Muffin), financial institutions (I Hate Banks), the arms race (Gonna Put My Face On A Nuclear Bomb) and sleazy club owners (Where The Hell's My Money) albeit with childish humor. Phrases like "talliwacker" and "doo doo balls" are prevalent. There's even a couple great cover tunes too. If you haven't heard Mojo & Skid in a while, time to refresh your memory. And if you've NEVER heard Mojo & Skid, you NEED this!!!

Offenders - We Must Rebel

Here's yet another GREAT hardcore L.P. Granted, I do think their I Hate Myself 7" is head and shoulders above anything else they did, this '83 release is damn good.

U.S. Chaos - We've Got The Weapons

I always liked this Jersey/D.C. band. Maybe a little controversial but hey, most of the great ones are. Here's their 1984 E.P.

Big Boys - Lullabies Help The Brain Grow

The Big Boys were an innovative, and incredibly entertaining band from Austin, Texas. Blazing fast hardcore with large doses of funk and jazz thrown in. Here's their '83 classic.

Subhumans - From The Cradle To The Grave

U.K.'s Subhumans tried something a little different on this 1984 L.P. Yes there's fast hardcore, but there's also a fair amount of slowed down tracks. And they even did the unthinkable, recorded a song lasting almost 17 minutes. This clearly paved the way for their later releases. Although I personally lost interest in their new sound I did love this L.P.

Exploited - Let's Start A War... Said Maggie One Day

The Exploited beat us over the head with this one in 1983. It's still one of my favorite from them. A powerful release.

White Flag - Third Strike

White Flag originally formed in 1982 and have always done things a little differently. Their '82 release, S Is For Space was a "3 sided" L.P. This one, from 1984, has a cover that can be a front cover no matter how you turn it. Even inside-out. Their songs often spoke against common punk themes. Songs actually defending cops, praising the good things about America, and even railing against the silly things about the "hardcore culture". And their music was pretty damn good too.

The F.U.'s - Do We Really Want To Hurt You?

Boston legends the F.U.'s first two releases were both insanely great hardcore records. Rippin' fast and snotty. In 1986 most of the members became the Straw Dogs and had a slower, heavier sound. However, in 1984 they released this L.P., which kind of bridges the gap between the two. Heavier than Kill For Christ or My America, but more "hardcore" than the Straw Dogs. I think it's a fantastic release.

Necros - Conquest For Death

This Necros full length debut is an absolute classic. What a great LP. Full on raw energy. Originally released in 1983.

Flipper - Sex Bomb Baby

Today we have Frisco's Flipper in all their bizarre beauty. Sex Bomb Baby was released in 1987 and is a collection of singles and compilation tracks. And a good collection at that.

Anarchy 6 - Hardcore Lives!

Anarchy 6 was the result when the McDonald brothers from Redd Kross got together with two guys from Sin 34 and decided to have some fun. They formed the hardcore parody band and released this L.P. in 1988. They also released a live cassette in 1990. All the punk stereotypes are taken to the extreme here, as well as rips on alot of notable 'punk' quotes. Good, fun stuff

GG Allin & The Holy Men - You Give Love A Bad Name

Well now we've reached the very bottom of the gutter. By the mid-80's GG Allin had gone way past a simple, run-of-the-mill scumfuc. Each record was released with a new back up band and less production.GG began living up to his on-stage persona. I still think this 1987 release is entertaining, in a vile sort of way.

The Nig-Heist - If You Love Me... Snort My Load

The Nig-Heist were a bunch of Black Flag roadie's (or anyone else willing to play)  that decided to don wigs, un-don their clothes, and piss off crowds with their songs before Black Flag took the stage. They released this lone L.P. in 1984. They also released a one-sided single and showed up on a comp or two. Some time in the 90's they re-released all of it on a 2 CD set, with the second disc being live stuff. That will make it on here some time in the future, but for now enjoy their heart-warming L.P.

The Meatmen - We're The Meatmen... And You Suck!

We're going to spend this weekend in the gutter. Starting with this chunk of classic Meat. I cannot believe I've been doing this for a year and a half and haven't posted this album yet. The Meatmen's eponymous 1982 full-length debut helped define a generation. Or at least it entertained some people.

Misfits - Walk Among Us

I gotta confess, for a while there I was a big time 'fiend'. Walk Among Us was the first full length release from the Misfits, from 1982, and has some of their all-time classics. This is still a great album.

Fear - The Record

One of the first 'punk' records I actually owned was this snotty little number from 1982. So it's at least partially to blame. Lee, Philo, Spit & Derf (R.I.P.) never sounded better.

Circle Jerks - Group Sex + Wild In The Streets

I remember first getting into hardcore while in a podunk east coast town. Sure, we had D.C. making alot of noise, but when we looked out west we saw what we considered the Hardcore Triumvirate: Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and these crazy beach mofos the Circle Jerks. And because I love all of you (in a platonic way, of course) I'm presenting here the 1986 CD re-release of their first two records. As the cover says: Two Punk Classics For The Price Of One!

Black Flag - Damaged

1981 saw the debut of Black Flag with their new singer, Henry Rollins. It also saw the release of this piece of hardcore history. Still mean!

Slayer - Hell Awaits

Another bonus post today. But this time it's for less fortunate reasons. By now I'm sure anyone searching blogs for Slayer have heard about the loss of Jeff Hanneman. As a small tribute, here's Hell Awaits

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables

Here's a little known punk band from San Francisco. Originally formed way back in 1978, the DK's were pretty much at the top of the hardcore movement until they broke up in 1986. In 1980 they released this debut masterpiece.

Minor Threat - Complete Discography

So, those of you that actually read this nonsense probably realize that I'm nothing without a silly monthly theme. So, how's this for a theme: 80's FUCKING HARDCORE!!! Isn't that why we all came here in the first place?! So let's begin. And a one...and a two...

For a while there, Minor Threat was king. They didn't release too much in their relatively short history, but what they did release was amazing. I couldn't decide which record to post here so I figured I'd go ahead and post it all. The band released this CD in 1989. There's an awful lot of history in this 45 minutes or so. It had been a while since I listened to Minor Threat, but I dusted this off a couple weeks ago and now present it here for anyone who may have forgotten how great it is. Enjoy!
