Drink, Drank, Drunk

I figured it would be appropriate to end our drunken month with a compilation of some of my favorite tunes dedicated to the evils of that devil alcohol. So drink up, the last round is on me.

Our last stop is in the great state of Canada. Relax Northerners, just having some fun. Here are two canuck releases that I found throwing up in the men's room.

Repostapalooza - Day 1

The final weekend of our drunken month of March we're gonna have a Repostapalooza! Are the kids still making 'palooza' jokes? Dunno, but we're going ahead with it anyway. First up we have Portland, Oregon. A damn fine drinking town. Here are a few posts that had gone dry.

Drunks With Guns - Second Verses

Well, ya can't have a month of alcohol music without St. Louis' Drunks With Guns. Loud and... loud. Damn these guys were noisy. Here's their 1990 release, and one of the few that ISN'T self-titled.

A Beer... Yeah!

The Cliftons - Sex, Drugs & Alcohol

The Cliftons play loud, fast, dirty and mean. And by the way, if you're looking for straight edge, best keep moving.

Verbal Abuse - V.A. Rocks Your Liver

Verbal Abuse has always been a band that enjoys a drink (along with various other substances). They began in 1981 as a ripping fast hardcore band. In the mid 80's they started leaning towards a more metal sound. Original singer Nicki Sicki left and was replaced by former Condemned To Death singer Scotty Wilkins. They then released this punk metal classic in 1985. Personally, I think it works perfectly. It's a really good "punk metal" album.

And speaking of Nicki Sicki, after his prison stint he reformed V.A. to tour with the old stuff as well as record some new tunes. One of those is a 3 way split released in 2011 with Scheisse Minnelli and The Shining called "Speed Kills, But Who's Dying?". Anyone out there have this one?

Toast - Various 7"s

Anybody ever hear of these guys? I found these 7"s on a blog some time ago, but haven't found much info. I found the following short description on label website.

Were probably the finest band to go and see for the whole of 1995 and most of 1996 too.
They managed to piss so many people off in such a short time it was amazing, people I know thought they were nazi’s at one point. Lead singer Spencer would look so sweet and then go completely apeshit, a member of the crowd at the St Johns Tavern actually glassed him (a drunk tosspot who shall remain nameless for now) one night as he thought Spencer was beating up a girl in the crowd, he wasn’t.
I had the pleasure of taking him to A&E!. Anyway they lasted for four great E.P.s, two on DG and two on Crackle, all the tracks from these ended up on Toast The Collection (damgood 124) which is now out of stock, we may do a small repress sometime if anyone cares.

If you haven't heard them, give 'em a shot. Great stuff!

Tankard - Best Case Scenario - 25 Years In Beers

I've always believed the best way to avoid a horrible hangover after a four day St. Patty's weekend is to stay drunk. So today we achieve that with German thrashers Tankard. These drunken old farts started in 1982 and are still recording, touring and drinking. Here's their 2007 release featuring some of their best highlights from the first 25 years.

Free Beer - The Only Beer That Matters

Besides being a great name for a band (who wouldn't show up when a flyer advertises Free Beer?!) they put together some pretty good tunes too. In 2002 Alternative Tentacles put together this CD. So that means, much like free beer, get it before it's gone!

Fear - More Beer + American Beer

Fear's recording outfit has been spotty over their 30 odd years of existence. Releasing their debut 7" in 1978, their 2nd 7" and monumental debut LP in '82, they didn't release their follow-up, More Beer,  until 1985. By then their music wasn't quite as angry, but their lyrics remained obnoxious as ever. Fast forward 15 years Lee Ving had an all new line-up for only their fourth studio album. It's good, but the boys were starting to show their age.

Peter & The Test Tube Babies - Rotting In The Fart Sack

What better way to spend a hungover Sunday than rotting in the fart sack with Peter & The T.T.B.'s. They take an interesting turn on this 1985 release. Peter & The Test Tube Cowboys? It might take you a few listens, but it is quite entertaining. Yee Haw!

Almighty Lumberjacks Of Death - Always Out Of Control But Never Out Of Beer 7"

True story, back in the early 90's I actually won $5000 on a lottery scratch ticket. So I did what anyone else would do and spent a huge chunk of money on records. One of those records was this 7" released in 1989. I'd never heard of them, but how could I pass up a band name like that. I have to say I was quite pleased. Drunken punk. Anyways, in 2005 they released all their stuff, which includes this 7", their '91 cassette and a few other tracks on CD, but honestly I just don't think their other stuff measures up to this. So I'm just presenting the 7". Enjoy.

Beer Mongers - Hungover

Here's a great, but all too quick, demo from Oklahoma's Beer Mongers. Ex-N.O.T.A. & Brother Inferior members got together, kicked a little ass, then moved on. Here's a brief description:

“Alcoholics go to meetings.”
Formed in late 2001 as a three-piece, Beer Mongers play what can be best described as a blend of balls-out hardcore punk and oi. Lyrical content generally revolves around good booze, bad women, and indiscriminate hatred for the world at large.

Alcoholics Unanimous - Hangover Cure

It's Sunday and, if you're like me, you're in need of a hangover cure. So that's what we have today. You've surely asked yourself 'I wonder what would happen if you took the always drunk Rancid Vat and added EVEN MORE alcohol.' Well, what you would get would be the Vat side project Alcoholics Unanimous, of course. Started in the late 80's during Rancid Vat's their Portland years, AU like to keep it simple. That is, songs about drinking. This was originally released as a cassette in 1990, then later made a CD.

The Drunks - Ruin It For Everyone

Since the month of March is the home of St. Patrick's Day, and since here in the states we use this solemn religious holiday as an excuse to drink excessively, we are going to have a month long celebration. A "bacchanalia" if you will! So, let's drink!

To kick us off I feel the time has finally come. Here's the E.P. from whence I got the name. A nifty little 6 song ripper by these New Hampshire bad asses.

Hey, Careful Man, There's A Beverage Here!
