We end the month alot like we began. With Exene. So, after X went quiet in the early 90's Exene and drummer DJ Bonebrake got together with Matt Freeman from Rancid for this short-lived late 90's project. The sound feels like a more updated X, with a bit more spring in their step. It's a great release. And, just in case you're not paying attention the first time around, they repeat the ENTIRE cd after the last track.

Tijuana Sweetheart - Public Display Of Infection
I just love these ladies from Massachusetts. Sadly they're no longer a band, but they left behind a small amount of music to hold on to. This is their debut from 2007.

Lunachicks - Jerk Of All Trades
Not only are the Lunachicks one of my all time favorite all-girl bands, they're one of my favorite 90's bands period. This is their 1995 release and yes, it kicks ass.

Girlschool - Demolition
Another legendary all girl band. Is Girlschool punk? Probably not. But I think they're certainly on the punk side of metal. They started in the late 70's and are still rockin' today. This is their debut album, released in 1980, and dammit, it deserves to be here!

The Runaways - Queens Of Noise
So, I just don't think this month would be complete unless I include the Runaways. This is their second full length, released in 1977. I don't think it's as good as their debut, but it still holds its own.

The N.Y. Rel-X - Self-Titled
One more stop in modern times before a long jump back this weekend. Another cool female fronted band from (SURPRISE!) New York. They also include a pretty cool Girlschool cover. Hmm, Girlschool eh? Maybe later.

Sister Mary Rotten Crotch - Hell Hath No Fury 7"
Today we have SMRC from KCMO. A live and scuzzy punk rock 7" from this (mostly) all-girl outfit. Includes a couple great cover versions of Bullet and Loud, Proud & Punk.

The Horny Bitches - 13 Reasons To Fuck
Scum punk isn't just for boy bands. As these Montreal ladies emphatically prove. Incredibly entertaining. I mean, how can you not love a melodic "whoa whoa whoa" song called "Choke Me"?

Menstrual Tramps - Self-Titled
Well, it's that time of the month. Time for some all-girl punk rock from Minneapolis. This three piece started rockin' around the turn of the century. This is their Self-Titled release which, unfortunately I downloaded from some fine site and now can't find any evidence of it's release. So perhaps the blogster I got it from threw it together. Either way, it rocks.

Devotchkas - Live Fast... Die Young
Time for a turn of the century all girl assault from New York. Not to be confused with THIS. Great short blasts of power.

V/A - Another Kick Into Their Balls
This 1988 tape comp out of Germany is chock full of quite a variety of different styles of punk and hardcore, and even a little metal. 12 bands and 25 songs. Some hits, some misses. Well I guess you could say they all have "misses" in a way (get it?!?). Rather uneven, but a decent listen. The cover says it's "The 2nd Female World Compilation Tape". I've never located the first.

This 1986 release is from the all girl trio Tožibabe. A great punk/hc assault from the former Yugoslavia.

The Nurse - ナース 7"
The Nurse administers a dose of all-girl Japanese hardcore. This all too short 7" from 1983 has a fantastic under-produced beauty. I don't understand the words. Of course I'd probably say that even if they sang in English.

Penis Flytrap - Dismemberment
Anyone that has spent any time at all around here had to know that if I was posting punk chicks my dear sweet Dinah Cancer would show up somewhere. Dinah joined this cleverly titled project in the mid 90's and proved you can take the girl out of the grave, but you can't take the grave out of the girl.

X-Ray Spex - Germ Free Adolescents (Extended Version)
Today we fly across the pond for the sweet siren call of the dearly departed Poly Styrene and X-Ray Spex. True punk royalty. This is their amazing debut re-released in 2005 as an expanded set with extras.

The Bags - All Bagged Up: The Collected Works - 1977-1980
Staying in L.A. we visit with the original Violence Girls. Alice and her (then) friend Pat helped pioneer the whole "punk chick" thing. And here's almost their entire short but important life.

X - Wild Gift
Spring has sprung, and as we wait for fairer weather we spend April concentrating on the fairer sex. Because this month, Chix Rule!
And we begin in Los Angeles. Exene Cervenka has been a punk queen since the late 70's. X helped define the L.A. punk sound. Here is the classic 2nd full length, from 1981.
