Ok, get ready to throw those horns, because today we have a masterpiece. Sure, it's filled mostly with bands you may have never heard of. But I'm willing to bet you've heard the songs! 90's punk covers 80's metal!! Yes, it is that good! I mean come on, they even include a cover version of Celtic Frost's 'Procreation Of The Wicked' recorded by two different bands. One plays in the left speaker and one in the right.. simultaneously! Just magical I tell ya. There is a Volume 2 out there so if anyone has it... PLEASE!!

So way back in the earliest of 80's New Alliance Records put out two really good compilations: Cracks In The Sidewalk, which I don't have, and Chunks. What they both deliver is a veritable who's who (and in some cases 'who's this?') of artists that defined New Alliance and later SST Records.

Here's a decent international collection released on German label Destiny Records in 1985. Some heavyweights and some lesser knowns. Well worth it.

V/A - 'Mortarhate' Compilations

Mortarhate records was/is a record label created by UK anarcho punks Conflict. During 1984 and 1985 Mortarhate (and their sub-label 'Fight Back') released these four powerful compilations. I'm not sure if these four releases can truly be considered a "series", but I'm calling them the Mortarhate Comps. Lots and lots of music for your Wednesday ears.

V/A - 'Puget Power' Compilations

There was some good chunky (and maybe a little sloppy) punk rock coming out of the Pacific Northwest in the early 90's. Conspicuously absent is Vol. 1. Actually I believe they ended up releasing Five 'Puget Power' 7"s. If anyone out there can help, I'll toss them up here and complete the collection. Thanks to François we can now enjoy the ENTIRE collection. Thank you, good sir!

V/A - We Still Can't Help It If We're From Florida 7"

1983's "We Can't Help It" comp was a Florida Hardcore masterpiece. This 1992 follow up takes a slight step back, but is still well worth the listen.

If you think all late 80's NYHC sounds the same this comp isn't going to change your opinion. Loud, aggressive, testosterone-filled rants from 10 bands. Upon listening, I discovered there's a few skips and cuts throughout, but I think there's enough here for you to get the point.

This rippin' comp was released in 1987 and features 20 bands from North America and 'Down Undah'. It was released by German label Double A, hence the 'Oversea'. A really strong collection.

I'm guessing if you're a fan of Japanese hardcore/crossover you've already got this in your collection. If not you damn well should! Lipcream, Outo, Gastunk, Gauze, Ghoul, The Execute, OK?!?!?! A farewell? Sounds to me like they're taking up arms!

Another great international comp today. 11 bands, most of which have multiple tracks. Well worth the price of admission. G.A.S.H., Sons Of Ishmael and Raped Teenagers are among the lineup.

Let's spend Friday living the Yalta Hi-Life! This is a great comp chock full of powerful Finnish hardcore. Six bands, every one just as good as the last. Ya get Terveet Kädet, Varaus, Äpärät, Aivoproteesi, Kaaos, and the band with probably the longest name in punkdom, Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio. Ok, let's just call them KTMK. You can't go wrong with this lineup!

In 1995 Bomp! put out their first collection of highlights from the incredible Smoke 7 Records. A year later they followed up with this just as damn cool Volume 2. LA punk at its absolute best!

The original Hell Comes To Your House featured cool punk with a heavy dose of "goth" punk thrown in. With Part II we also get the cool punk, but this time Bemisbrain throws in a heavy dose of cowpunk. Definitely a change of pace. This was requested long long ago but was never in my collection until just recently.

This great UK comp with a fantastic name was released in 1983. Two songs each from 6 bands, including the Mau Maus, Xpozez and Septic Psychos.

Originally requested by Spike, fulfilled by Col. Ed, this international (mostly Germany & Netherlands) comp has quite a few rippers. Hardcore with a sharp metal edge.

It still amazes me that from time to time I stumble across something in my collection that I can't believe I'd not posted yet. Here's another one of those. This AMAZING 1982 comp somehow slipped through the cracks until now. Hell, I even posted Vol 2 quite some time ago. Anyway, this "Mid-West" comp has plenty of heavyweights: Toxic Reasons, Zero Boys, AoF. Also the F.U.'s, which were perhaps from the midwestern portion of Boston? But there is also some great stuff to be found from the lesser knowns, like The Slammies and Delinquents. If you haven't got this in your collection, do yourself a favor!

So, a while back I asked you fine folks if you could help me find some old tape comps. You were able to help with most of the list. Thank you. This one wasn't delivered until well after, so I post it here now to begin the month. A collection of 21 bands from either Germany or the U.S. Released in 1985. An entertaining listen.
