Z - 戦争反対

We wrap up November with a noisy 1986 tape by the Japanese band Z. I know nothing about this band. I do know this tape, 26 tracks - no titles included, is some rippin' fast Japanese thrash. A great way to end the month. A foreshadowing of next month? Yeah, probably.

Fallout - It's All Over Now Demo

Punk Rock from western Virginia today. These guys were never able to broaden their boundaries too much, but they still never failed to entertain. I apologize for the iffy sound quality. I think I did a poor job when I pulled it from cassette some time ago.

Schizoid - Datin' Satan Demo

Time for some good old fashioned punk metal from Newfoundland. To be honest I had never heard of them, but they apparently made quite the name for themselves up there. Here's a demo from their all too limited catalog.

Vengeance - Oxnard Hardcore - Demo 1983

Nardcore, baby! This Vengeance, not to be confused with the other So Cal band from the 'Not So Quiet' comp, rips through 12 tunes. Technically I think this was released as a 7", but cassettes had to have been around, right?

The Underachievers - Skip The Salad Bar Demo

This Thanksgiving we're skipping the salad bar and heading straight to the hardcore. That made little to no sense but what's done is done. Straight ahead NJ hardcore with mostly goofy lyrics.

Saud - Saud Is Dead

I stumbled upon this tape, and TONS others on the great Hawaii Punk Museum site. I strongly recommend a visit. I also strongly recommend downloading this. Fast hardcore with just a slight metal tinge.

Abortion Squad - Hardcore '83

East Coast Hardcore today. New Hampshire to be exact. Technically, I think this is a CD reissue of their 1983 cassette. But I won't tell anyone if you won't.

Blood Lake - Sink Or Swim Baby

Blood Lake was another California band. I first discovered them during the great BCT quest. They appeared on #24, Car Crash Music. I then asked you fine people if anyone had any more and here it is. Damn good punch-in-the-face hardcore.

Half Off - Same Old Story

We're going to go a little deeper into the vaults today. At least deep in my vault. Over the next few days I'm going to be posting tapes from bands that I had never heard of back in the day, but discovered through the magic of Blogging. And we start with the southern Cali band Half Off. Or 1/2 Off. Or, if you know the neat little "Alt+0189" trick, ½ Off. Good hardcore here. Enjoy!

Subhumans - Demolition War Parts I-III

Here is what I believe to be the very first release from the legendary Subhumans. Not to be confused withe their debut vinyl, also called Demolition War. So I guess that'd be Part IV. Anyway, this one puts together live tracks from two diffferent shows as well as well as practice tracks. Shit like this really makes me nostalgic. A great tape, indeed.

Rövsvett ‎– Hunden Beskyddar Människan, Men Vem Beskyddar Hunden ?? Demo

Rövsvett blasts some sloppy no-frills hardcore from Sweden. And I use the terms 'sloppy' and no-frills' complimentarily. Google Translate tells me the English translation for the title is "The Dog Protects The Human, But Who Protects The Dog??". So, coupled with the excellent tape cover, their sense of humor is there.

The Disturbed + Chaotic Subversion Split Tape

We got a massive dose of Scottish hardcore today. Some good old fashioned angry stuff to get you going. Released sometime in the late 80's it collects demos, practices and even a couple EP's in the mix. The sound quality is low, but the music is great.

Civil Dissident - Fourth Rate American Thrash Tape

So, from what I've read Aussie band Civil Dissident had an early release reviewed by MRR. The reviewer referred to it as "Fourth Rate American Thrash". And they chose to run with that. Releasing this tape in 1984. I think the reviewer was having a bad day, because this is some good stuff.

Peace Corpse - Self-Titled

I always loved this band. Unfortunately there's just not alot of stuff that ever made it to a recording. This cassette comprises their incredible 7", plus extra "iffy quality" live stuff.

Christ On Parade - Cheap, Deformed, Cassette E.P.

The great Christ On Parade had some great releases during the second half of the 80's. This is on of their earliest releases, from 1985

Rednecks In Pain - Sick Semen Demo

One drawback of the cassette release is of course the issue of sound quality. But back in the day we took what we could get. Rednecks In Pain was a short-lived outfit outta Tennessee. They released this tape in 1989. Add a couple decades and the sound quality didn't get any better, but doesn't it take you back?

Rebels & Infidels - Young, Gifted & Black Demo

We kick off the weekend with a bit of a rough sounding release. Still haven't learned much about the band, but I believe this was released in '85 and also features a female singer.

Zero Boys - The History Of The Zero Boys

For November we're going to once again focus on the easiest and cheapest way bands found to get their music out there - the cassette. This month I'm wishing everyone a Happy Tapesgiving!

And we start the month with a slight carryover, the number zero. Indiana legends the Zero Boys kick off the month. Honestly I'm not sure about the "history of" this tape, but I believe it was a posthumous release in 1984. After their all too brief existence.
