Well kids, we knew one day this would come. Here it is the second of the month and no theme and worse yet, no post! Yep, the ol' doctor is worn out. The real world has become quite busy and has been making it increasingly more difficult for me to ruin it for everyone. So, doc needs a break. I'll make a couple posts soon in tribute of my upcoming trip. Much like 5 years ago I'll be making the trek to whatever is left of Charlotte, N.C. to attend the 35 year ANTiVERSARY. Upon my return I'll do my best to get my affairs in order, catch up on any repost requests then fade into the shadows for a bit. Will I be back? Yeah, probably.

Cockney Rejects - Greatest Hits Vol. 2

And we end the month much like we began, with another war on the terraces. Much like Volume 1, their second Greatest Hits collection compiles their second full length LP. Released in 1980, it still carries all the weight damn near 40 years later.

Yes, another 1998 split 7" today. But the last for a while I assure you. This also bridges the gap between UK and American street punk. The Drones were originally a late 70's UK punk band that quite frankly I was never aware of. Well apparently they enjoyed a bit of a rebirth in the late 90's, including a tour with Atlanta Oi!sters Adolf & The Piss Artists. And if nothing else, the tour did produce an entertaining record.

Here in America this month kicks off with a long Labor Day weekend. So, as a half-hearted tribute, we're hitting the streets and blogging for the working class this month!

And we start way back in the earliest of 80's with the band often credited with giving Oi! its name. The Cockney Rejects were/are a rowdy bunch of hooligans from the East End. This 1980 Greatest Hits collections compiles, well, all the tracks from their debut LP. Since that is actually what it is. Clever lads!

NOFX's 2011 7" blasts out 14 songs in 13 minutes. Complete with their typical "high brow" lyrics. And the good news is, if you don't like a song it's over before you can get too pissed. Well, if you don't count the two minute ten second opus that closes the record.

Something a little different today. We're going all the way back to 1980 Alaska for this single. Side 1 is a goofy little new wave number, while the flip is a bit more punky. Very minimalistic and pretty cool, too.

The Landlords were a cool hardcore band from Charlottesville, Va. In 1983 two Landlords adopted the names Mr. Anus and Mr. Horribly Charred Infant and started making noisy weird music under the moniker Happy Flowers. God Bless America! Anyway, here's their 1990 7" that includes an ode to hair metal, both studio and live, and an ode to German Folk.

Might as well stay down south for a bit longer. This time we're not only down south we're down under. Not sure where or when I stumbled onto this 7", but with a title like this, it was hard to pass up. And thankfully the quick blast delivers some entertaining turn-of-the-century hardcore. They also throw in a fantastic cover of Jealous Again.

HP.HC - Thrash/Hardcore/Punk 7"

Staying WAY down south, but a bit further north we find the insanity of Columbia's HP.HC. They certainly don't have the long history like Cólera, but they did call their shot quite clearly in the title of their one and only release. This damn thing rips!!

Wake Up!

Cólera ‎– Dé O Fora 7"

Heading down south for the remainder of the weekend. Way down south, in fact. To Sao Paulo, Brazil. Cólera started around the same time the 80's did, and they are still going strong today. This 1986 7" Calls out HC - Oi - Punk in the first track and deliver some or all of that throughout all 4 songs.

It's fitting we follow up our Christmas month with the most wonderful time of the year. Yep, it's that time again. Time for me to whip out my 7 inches! It's 7" of Summer, baby!

And our first stop is San Francisco. Long time MRR stalwart Jeff Bale had this NorCal band together in the early 80's. Apparently it was supposed to be released around 1982 but didn't actually see the light of day until '91. It is an absolute ripper!

Well, after all the gifts are unwrapped, the egg nog drained, and the tree dead, there's only one thing to look forward to. And that's of course New Year's Eve. Pop Punk legends Screeching Weasel put out this nifty little single last year, perfectly book-ending the holiday season.
