I have a personal favorite to wrap up our month. While living on the east coast Richmond's Mudd Helmüt was one of my absolute favorite bands. They came from the smoldering ashes of White Cross & Death Piggy. Unfortunately they never really caught on outside of the mid-atlantic U.S. Might've had something to do with their impressive alcohol intake. At any rate, here's a set I found on the great (but quiet of late) Noise Addiction blog. And don't forget their demo I posted quite some time ago. Alcohol Powered Rock 'N' Roll! Hope you enjoy.

Subhumans - Live In Edmonton 1995
Staying in Canada today for one of the Great White North's most under-appreciated exports, the Subhumans. They originally formed in 1978. By 1983 Dimwit and Wimpy moved on to D.O.A. and Useless moved on to pulling a nickel. By 1995 Dimwit was sadly gone, but Useless was out of prison and Wimpy took a break from D.O.A. so the older, and possibly wiser gentlemen could remind the kids what the early days of Canadian punk sounded like. A great long set with all the classics.

System Overload - Lawn Jam 1988
So, one of the truly great things about these blogs, and what I truly like, is the ease is which old farts like me get to discover so much new OLD music. A few years ago I went on a quest here at the ol' blog, and put together a 4 month 'World Tour'. In order to accomplish this I needed to search for bands from specific locations. That is how I found this band: System Overload from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their demo was posted then, but here's a live set I also found. Playing at someplace called Lawn Jam. Great stuff.

Mentors - Live In Seattle 12.28.84
Imagine, if you will, you're in your late teens or perhaps your early twenties. You just celebrated Christmas. Maybe you got a couple cool records. Or maybe even a leather jacket. You're looking forward to New Year's Eve and the big party you're going to. And then... then... the Mentors come to town. Well, that's what happened to the fine folks in Seattle some 33 years ago. A short set full of wonderfully crass between song banter. It's a wonder any of us made it this far.

Scream - Live @ Wilson Center, Washington D.C. 06.25.82
Yes, the sound quality is pretty bad on a lot of these recordings this month. But, I don't know, something about them just really takes me back. Damn it was fun back in those days! And I think you can hear it in these live shows. I know, I'm being weird. Shut up, Doc! Anyway, here's a short opening set from what had to have been an amazing night of harDCore.

V/A - Live @ Longshoremen's Memorial Hall, Wilmington, CA 06.24.83
Another jam packed show today, from 1983. We got Sin 34, D.O.A. and the Dead Kennedys. Sound's a bit muddy on Sin 34 and D.O.A., and downright BAD on DK's, but damn it sounded like a good time! Right down to the 'after show riot'.

Legal Weapon - Live @ Cathay De Grande 11.29.80
Here's a really early live set from the great Legal Weapon. They tended to pick up a little speed as their years went on. Although a bit slow it's still an entertaining set.

How about we finally get around to a New York band playing CBGB? Here's a few rough-sounding tracks from the great No Thanks.

V/A - Live @ The Barn, Torrance, CA 07.03.82
Let's spend the weekend in and around L.A., starting with this great lineup from 1982. Unfortunately we don't have whole sets on this one, just a few tracks each. We're also missing anything from headliners the Dead Kennedys. Oh well, you get what you pay for.

V/A - Rock Against Reagan 07.03.83
For today's post we turn the hands of time way back to yesterday... and also 34 years before that. There were a few "Rock Against Reagan" events if I recall correctly. This particular one was held in D.C. and had a monster line up. The sound is pretty rough, but man it takes you back! Unfortunately no MDC set included with this one. By the way, I got this, as well as tons more great live recordings from Noise Addiction II. Check it out. You'll be glad you did!

Poison Idea - Live @ The Pyramid Club, NYC 05.09.90
The thing about live boots is that, well, sometimes they're a bit rough. As is the case today. In 1990 Poison Idea already had a decade under their elastic waistband and was slowly building into the absolute powerhouse they became in the early 90's. In May of that year they took their show to New York City. A great set, as is expected. However the sound is rough and Jerry sounds a bit... tipsy. Word of caution, the show is broken down into two long tracks. I was too lazy to split it by songs.

Misfits - Live At Max's Kansas City, NYC 12.20.78
And we start kinda where we left off last month - The Misfits. Probably the reigning kings of the punk rock bootlegs. This is a great, and incredibly early set from 1978. One of my favorites.
