Germs - Germicide - Live At The Whisky

Every once in a while you just gotta listen to the Germs. It's good for the soul. Better, even, than chicken soup, I bet. This 1981 release features a very young Mr. Crash and company. So young, in fact, that Darby was still calling himself Bobby Pyn. Great sloppy fun. Ah, youth!

Bad Brains - Self-Titled

Yes I've posted this before, and yes I'm posting it again. One of the finest examples of American Hardcore. A plastic chunk of history.

The Fleshtones - Blast Off!

Garage legends The Fleshtones started in 1976 and in one form or another kept it going for some 40 years now. Here's their 1982 offering.

Johnny Thunders - The New Too Much Junkie Business

In the interest of cohesion we jump ahead to 1983. The legendary Johnny Thunders belts out some classics, all recorded live throughout 1982. There's also the added bonus of Johnny's smacked out DJing.

New York Dolls - Lipstick Killers

I always loved the Dolls. And this is some rough and tough early recordings. Great to hear the stripped down early versions of classics.

Suicide - ½ Alive

Another early release here, from 1981. Cleverly titled because half the tape is live and half is studio. Sadly the title now describes the band, as Alan Vega left us last year. Incredibly minimalistic. A perfect example of what can happen when you give two guys a synthesizer, a microphone and way too much heroin.

The Dictators - Fuck 'Em If They Can't Take A Joke

So, I believe it was last year that I used that old March - Lion - Lamb saying for a theme. We'll kinda do that again this year, but only focus on half of it this time around. Specifically, we're focusing on the lion's mighty roar. Only, for our purposes we're spelling it ROIR. Now, I do realize they're still in business so I hope we're able to make it through the month without having to either cease or desist. We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, to start the month we dive right into the mean streets of New York City. ROIR put this hunk of plastic and tape out in 1981 as one of their first. Street tough 70's punk. A classic.
