Yeah, it's a shame ! Loved Government Issue ! I first heard those guys in 81'. Saw a few DC bands back then, but unfortunately never got to see GI ! He was a great dude, did alot for the Hardcore scene ! When he was badly beaten up a few years back, I thought to myself "how fucked up has this world become!" He did nothing to provoke it, and he could not defend himself. But he fought back and recovered from his injuries (after serious surgeries to his face), strong willed and hardcore as ever ! He will truly be missed by the old schoolers like me, not sure if the kids today even know who GI was, but they should learn ! RIP John, Love & Peace
That'd be fantastic if you could do that Mike! I was lucky enough to see GI once in my po-dunk home town. They played a great set then John hung out at a house party afterwards regaling us stupid kids with cool punk rock stories.
Great guy. So kind. I will never forget the times I met him and the packages of cassettes he used to send me to rip to MP3 of his non GI bands live shows or demos.
Been celebrating the whole GI discography, not a bad record in the bunch!!!!!!! Glad I got to see John Stabb/ GI in Cleveland when I was a kid, got grounded after that one for getting home around 2 a.m., was well worth it!!!! I'm a GI, I'm a GI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP.
hahaha, great ! I used to DJ way back in 81 & 82', did a hardcore radio show. Played stuff off Boycott Stabb and Legless Bullshit all the time ! :) Fucking timeless classics !!!!!! My favorite of the GI stuff ! That and Flex Your Head of course !

They headlined the first show I ever saw. Philly C.E. Center 2-23-85 with the Electric Love Muffin and Constraint. RIP
ReplyDeleteNice man, that rules ! I have a set of them from Love Hall, Philly 83'. If you want that, I can make a link and post it on here.
Deletesweet. I downloaded the '85 set of their bandcamp, then lost the files. Can't figure out how to get that download back. Ha
