Poison Idea

Oregon, USA

  1. Jerry A once wrote that Poison Idea started hardcore here in Portland and will also finish it here in Portland. As of now he seems right.Their last show at La Luna in 1993 really meant their last show until their reformation. They had some younger bands to outlast. Pick Your King still rules though.

  2. Just caught their final(???) show in Sept, they had just returned from a pretty kick ass mtour of Germany. Myrtle, Tense, Mondo and THEE SLAYER HIPPY (slim and recently married and back from his extended vacation) got on stage at different times with the newly married Mr. A, sorry ladies, Mrs. A was also present. A slammin' good time was had y all. I could go on and on about PI shows in teh early 80's but to sum it up, cutting my teeth on those pits made any other I have been at seem certaily doable, if not polite, certainly non threatening and bummed my first trip to CBGB's out, Cro-Mags Best Wishes release party, not bad, but not a PI pit, PI always had the fear factor, you just never knew when stuff was about to explode, and often it did, and ya just roll with it. That was some serious shit and u would have to be an exceptional arsehole to not have about 5 hands tossed at you should you happen to hit the floor to pull u right back on yer boots. From the outside looking in, it looked a bit like RollerBall. Ill stop here, but thanks for triggerin the old memory banks, Crap, now I cant stop em, oh well.

You make my local record stores happy to see me, I listen here then get the real deal. My wallet hates you, my ears love you.
PS...My brother just picked up a F'n Jerry A solo album, vinyl, recorded in Italy it seems with some Italian band backing him up. It's new to me and will be hearing it tomorrow, cant even tell ya the name yet, but will know it tomorrow. Prick little brother, hate to, but gonna have to nick that one. Record Collectors are Pretentious Arseholes, some anyway.

  3. I was browsing in Generation Records in Manhattan's East Village a number of years back and two young punklets, barely out of grade school, were flirting with each other in the next row. They came across the Poison Idea section and started grousing about how fat and disgusting they were. Part of me wanted to assail them for not recognizing one of the best ever, but then I thought about how nothing I could say would be as good as what the PI guys themselves could have said, so I decided not to waste my time. Little shits.

  4. And R.I.P. Thee Slayer Hippy, one of the nicest guys in R'n R, especially as he mellowed with age. Helped soooo many in his life, as a musician, as a producer, and as someone whos been there and done that. And he was in a good space. He and Mr. Champion are ripping it up right now, busting the kinks out of some new pieces, they will be there slammin at teh pearly gates when our time comes. Of course they are outside those gates pointing the way for all their friends to take a quick hard left to where the real action is.
